I was going to fit new plugs to our Mk2.5 1.8HE only to find the useless Haynes doesn't give a torque setting for them. It only gives one for the coil retaining bolts.
A clamp broke on me Tuesday morning. AA came and found it but couldn't get a part. I've ordered the clamp, new injector washer and the clamp bolt. The thing that nobody could tell me (even Ford with any certainty) is the torque settings. Ford said they think it should be 7Nm + 55 degrees but they weren't sure!

I wanted to check what is the best way to prevent the crank from rotating while doing this. Is just leaving the cam alignment tool in place enough, or is that asking too much of the timing

47 posts · Joined 2015. #3 · Aug 21, 2018. Haynes manual (4807) lists sump bolts as 10nm (7 lbf/ft). Also says to note which bolt came from which hole as they may be different lengths. If no gasket is used apply sealant to crankcase or sump (ensuring sealant goes on the inside edge of the bolt holes) on refitting.
SOURCE: torque settings for head gasket on LDV convoy 400 2,5ltr ford engine. I can tell you one thing for sure these are torque to yield bolts and they must be replaced, you can't use them over or the head gasket will leak very quickly or the bolt will snap on install.. Posted on Jul 13, 2012
